Synopsis

In 1570 France, a drab coach crosses desolate countryside: the kingdom is poverty-stricken, with civil war everywhere under the pretext of religion. Henri de Malassise, Ambassador at the court of France in Italy, has been summoned to Paris by King Charles IX and Queen Mother Catherine de Médicis, to negotiate a peace treaty with the Protestant authorities to put an end to the confrontations.
